Jennifer Jarvis is a licensed Georgia attorney with a lifelong passion for horses. She began riding at the age of eight after being introduced to horses at a dude ranch in Wyoming when she was just four. Jennifer earned a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from Auburn University. She later obtained her law degree from Georgia State University. Throughout her journey, horses have been a constant and integral part of her life.
Currently an avid dressage rider, Jennifer has explored many facets of the horse industry. Her experiences range from fox hunting and driving, to working at top competition barns, participating in western pleasure and trail riding, eventing, and teaching summer camp riding lessons. Throughout it all, the welfare of the horse has always been her foremost concern.
Through Equus Planning, Jennifer offers comprehensive legal services related to horse ownership, including sales contracts, boarding agreements, and equestrian estate planning. Importantly, she can also help you create a comprehensive Equine Trust – something every horse owner should have-to safeguard their horses’ futures in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
As dedicated horse owners, we meticulously plan for every scenario that might affect our cherished animals, always prioritizing their welfare. We have a network of veterinarians, farriers, nutritionists, and physiotherapists at our fingertips. We regularly fit our tack, and own way too many blankets and saddle pads. When traveling, we leave detailed instructions for farm sitters, ensuring every aspect of our horse’s care is covered.
Have you considered what would happen to your horse if something unexpected happened to you? In the event of your passing or a severe injury, who would take responsibility for your horse’s care? If you own a farm, who would manage it in your absence? If you board your horse, who would ensure the bills are paid? Where would the necessary funds come from? Who would oversee the sale of your horse if needed, or manage their retirement care?
We’ve all heard the tragic stories of horses neglected or sold under distressing circumstances due to a lack of proper planning. Without clear instructions, horses can be left unfed, sold at kill auctions, or quickly handed over to unsuitable owners.
It allows you to make arrangements and decisions in advance, ensuring your horse’s well-being, regardless of unforeseen circumstances. With an Equine Trust, you can pre-arrange payment for board, designate caretakers, and outline care instructions. If your horse needs to be sold, the trust specifies how that process should be handled.
